Oaxacan Carved Wood 3321---Tribes Mixes Turquoise Dillo
Artist: Tribes Mixes Location: Oaxaca, Oaxaca, Mexico
A great armadillo from the artists that have helped make the "little armored ones" famous folk art pieces.
A perfect armadillo in turquoise, purple and red. The artist really captured the posture and stance of the animal. From the back, he seems lifelike as he creeps away.
Hand-carved from cedar, this piece truly showcases the distinct style of the Tribes Mixes. Paint is placed onto the carving one drop at a time from a one-hair paint brush. Many layers of drops are placed on top of each other, giving the piece a "bumpy" three-dimensional appearance.
Income from the sale of art goes to fund the community and helps send older children to school in the city of Oaxaca.
Hand carved and painted on cedar wood.
12" long. 3.5 wide 4" tall
